Sun-N-Fun Airshow Photos…
Adventure, Blue Shoe Photography, Moved From Xanga
Blast From the Past…
If you’re a photographer, then I’m certain you can understand this story.
You go out; take amazing photos just for fun; edit a few, and then remember
another shoot you’ve got to get uploaded for a client.
You focus on your clients needs; and the next thing you know, it’s been
nearly a YEAR and your “fun” photos have yet to make it online.
Well, a few nights ago I decided “Enough is enough!” and decided to edit
ALL my photos from Sun-N-Fun fly-in, 2009.
So, here are a few of my favorites

Sean D. Tucker…

Sean is my favorite aerobatic pilot to watch… To shoot…
AND he’s a great guy to get to know as well.

The best part of Sun-N-Fun ‘09 for me though, was getting
to share it with my Mom, Sister, Brother, and the woman who
was soon to become my Bride.
We had SO much fun.
(and gained the dirtiest feet I’ve EVER seen)

We ended up having quite the contest to see who’s were
the grossest… Still not sure who won that one for sure

Becca, Nelle, and Myself

My rockin’ little bro and my Mother with a turkey leg.
(Sorry Mom)

James (my brother) has grown up SO much in the past year!
It’s wild just looking at these.
As the night grew later, the night airshow geared up.
Here’s one of the many shots I was able to capture
as the Aero Shell team prepared for their amazing routine.

Each year around Sun-N-Fun time, my family’s restaurant
Chalet Suzanne throws an epic Aviator’s BBQ… It’s always a
MUST attend event in my world; and hundreds of pilots from
around the world usually show up.
So, here’s a few from that event as well

SO much fun!!
There was one small damper on the festivities of the week though;
one of our over night guests made a mistake on their climb out and
ended up bending his airplane.
Both he, and his passenger were fine; but the accident caused a few
fires that took some work to put out.

Truly amazing that they all walked away… God is good!

And that’s it for me!
I’ve got a plethora of other events to shoot, but this’ll have to
do for now
Next up?
WPPI 2010 Recap, a few weddings, a few photo shoots, and
an epic little road trip across the US with my Bride
Talk Soon!!
P.S. Which was your favorite photo? I hope this post has
inspired you to go finish something you love to do!

A neat post, Eric — the air show looks as fun as the Miramar one — and I’m glad nobody was hurt in that crash!

Those were amazing and I loved seeing this through your eyes. I’ve never been to an air show. You made it look fun.
My favorite was definitely the showing off a dirty foot one, lol.

Oh, my fav was the four red planes on the blue and white sky! Fantastic!!

My favorite is the very first one! I love the facial expressions. (I also love the one with the man with his back to the camera watching the plane.)
What kind of camera/lenses do you use? (If you use Nikon I could take a guess at the lenses - but I know next to nothing about Canon.) And do you have to do a lot of post-processing? The moods and stories you convey with your photography is just astounding - the colors, bokeh, composition, exeptional! I am a novice photographer but I have this hunger in my soul to be able to create such art and share it with the world. I feel so silly asking for tips, especially given how busy you are, but I would be so sincerely grateful for any advice you could give on how to produce such stunning images. I think I am fairly strong on the composition side of it, I tend to get fantastic photos with little point and shoot cameras but they aren’t right for printing material, so I have a professional camera now and the learning curve is so steep! Especially as I am still in nursing classes full-time…
Thanks again for sharing your photos! They inspire me!

@the_color_nine - Hey Karli, So glad you enjoyed them!!
I shoot Canon (used to shoot Nikon though :))
Most of my shots are made with:
Canon 5D MkI
Canon 35mm F1.4L
Canon 100mm F2
Though some are made with:
Canon 70-200 F2.8L IS
Canon 17-40 F4L
Canon 15mm F2.8
Canon 45mm TSE
Canon 24mm TSE
Canon 85mm F1.2L
In the post above, I shot most of the images with my 70-200 anda 2x doubler (Making it a 140mm-400mm F5.6)
I LOVE shooting with a shallow depth of field, and make it a pointto keep focus as a primary concern. It can be tough when shooting prime lenses wide open (at F1.4 or the like) but it’s WELL worth it in my opinion.
I do VERY little post processing. In fact, few of my images even make it into photoshop. I do basiccolor correction and contrast adjustments in Bridge and then upload!
If I can help in any way; don’t hesitate to ask… I’m here to help!!

Eric, these are awesome! I love the Sean shots – Looks like so much fun!

Fantastic!
My favorites are 4,5,6 & 9…but they’re all great (as usual).

…Oh, and I think Becca won

Great shots as usual! I’ve been to SnF a few times, but your photos are simply outstanding.
You’re also the master of understatement… That plane may have been only bent at first, but it soon was flipped, folded and burnt. That’s why we fly with insurance!
All the best!

Eric,
Had to check it out with the “dirty feet” come-on on Twitter. I used to go to air shows often as a child back in New Jersey. They scared and thrilled me. Haven’t been to one in many years, but got that pang when I looked at your fine pictures. Yes, the one with the red planes against the blue sky is lovely. but the two with the curly-cue smoke trails are my favs.
Oh, and, obviously, the person on the left of the picture won. They are so dirty, their feet looked like shoes.

Yay for old pics!

Way to end a post with a plane crash - glad everyone was okay!
Love the first one, SO perfect.
The last two Sean D. Tucker ones are my fav. of that group…
lol @ Nelle! You’re cute!
Hey, great to see your face in a blog post!
I second the vote for Becca’s feet being the dirtiest
Ooo, all the “close-ups” on the plans rock… can’t pick a favorite of those, haha.
Yikes
